BLUES REVUE MAGAZINE REVIEW
We are very pleased to share a very nice review of our Watermelon Tea CD by Tom Hyslop of Blues Revue Magazine. The following review can be found in the Blues Bites section on Page 70 of the May/June 2011 Edition of Blues Revue Magazine:
"On Watermelon Tea, singer Bobby Joe Owens impressively manages to sound intense and devil-may-care, simultaneously; ace guitarist Zach Sweeney has tones from haunting to stinkin' and styles from smooth to savage; and the band has enough shambolic energy to suggest it will conquer the known universe, if only it doesn't fly apart first. Producer Jimbo Mathus, who also played drums, drew an incredible bunch of performances out of Retro Deluxe; give him and Engineer Justin Showah credit for capturing the proceedings in a spacious, live mix. You'll have to decide whether you prefer the Memphis-to-Chicago energy of the band's raw, stomping shuffles, their tough slow blues, the rootsy rockers and crazed boogies, or the fuzzed-out, dirty funk of "Blues Infusion." This has got to be one of the coolest records in years." Tom Hyslop, Blues Revue Magazine
Thanks again Tom for the nice review!
